Nick's Thoughts On Why You Should Join MBSA?
The Medical Bioscience Academy is, proudly, one of Enloe’s longest-running institutional organizations that has empowered high school students with health science ambitions alike for over two decades. At first glance, I vividly remember an immediate motivation to join MBSA as an incoming freshman—inspired by its science-driven curriculum, outreach programs, and similarly-focused student body.
However, MBSA is much more than its mission statement. It is a community of diverse individuals that are motivated to improve health equity and health care, supported by selfless faculty that are equally as dedicated to bettering the future of medicine. Without the inspirational and dependable faculty—without the students that compose our widely-arrayed ambitions despite the blanket term “aspiring health professional” that categorizes many of our members—MBSA wouldn’t be as impactful as it is today.
The more I reflect, I become moved by the efforts of our wonderful coordinator, Ms. Deborah Massengill, and faculty like Mrs. Benicia Ledford, Mr. Arthur Jackson, and Mrs. Georgette Kelley who have pushed our organization beyond its capacity for countless consecutive years. Our unique, shared mission of excellence, student vocalization, professionalism and equity can only be experienced through Enloe MBSA.
Many join MBSA to learn about healthcare—about ventricles of the heart, regenerative medicine, or pharmaceutical drug classifications. I, however, have learned far more than the foundations of a meaningful health science curriculum. Through a worthwhile four years of service, laughs, making close friends, and developing professional relationships, I have realized the beauty of community.
