Gabe’s Experience at the NAF Health Fair
Last fall, it was my turn to orchestrate the health fair – an interactive event at Poe Elementary that teaches children about various health topics.
In years past, the health fair took place in March, giving MBSA Juniors the lion’s share of the school year to plan and prepare their posters, games, and prizes to accompany their lessons about their respective health topics. This year, COVID-19 concerns prompted them to again push the date to December.
The different groups had their work cut out for them. Furthermore, the health restrictions forced them to innovate older practices (such as blowing into a tube for the Asthma group) to be COVID-safe. In the end, the condensed timeline proved no match for MBSA students. Through collaboration and diligence, everybody was ready come the week of the fair.
On the day of the fair, Poe Elementary brought enthusiasm and appreciation to validate all of our hard work. Their teachers were impressed with MBSA’s capacity to simultaneously entertain and teach their students. We left the health fair with a feeling of satisfaction; not only was it a successful health fair for us, but also for them.
