11th grade:  Requirements for Classes of 2023-2026 

Complete job shadowing and submit proof of completion.

​

Obtain health occupation internship credit - Complete 135 hour internship with two honors projects or an 80 hours internship with four honors projects. This can be done during the summer.
For their internship, juniors are expected to record their learning objectives, create journal entries, track their hours, and create a cumulative presentation. 

 

MBSA REQUIRED ELECTIVES FOR CLASSES OF 2023 & 24:

9th grade (1 credit):  Biomedical Technology I

     In this course, students learn the basics of biomedical technology and its applications in the real world.

10th grade (1 credit):  Health Science I

      In this course, students learn the foundations of anatomy and diseases/disorders they may encounter during their healthcare career with hands-on experience gained from various labs.

11th grade (1 credit):  Health Science II

      In this course, students learn more about health science careers and the various pathways and regulations in place in the medical field. Through certifications and projects, students gain an understanding of the basics of working in healthcare.

12th grade (1 credit) choose ONE course:  Adv. Health Studies, Pharmacy Tech, EMT, Biomedical Technology II, a Wake Tech Health Science class or IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science*

*only students who have passed Biomedical Technology can take IB Sports for their MBSA credit since it is not a CTE credit

      In Pharmacy Tech, students get a chance to learn more about the pharmaceutical industry through course studies on the licensure and certification of professionals. They gain an understanding of the various types of medications, drug classification, and this class will prepare students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam.

9th Grade (1 credit): Foundations of Health Science

10th Grade (1 credit): Health Science I Honors

11th Grade (1 credit): Health Science II Honors or Biomedical Technology I Honors

12th Grade (1 credit) choose ONE course: Pharmacy Tech, EMT, Biomedical Technology II, a Wake Tech Health Science class or IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science*

*cannot count for MBSA and science credit/can only count as MBSA credit for 12th grade year

ADDITIONAL MBSA ELECTIVES FOR CLASSES OF 2023-26 (2 credits required) Courses cannot be used for more than one category! If a course is used to fit an above category, it cannot be used here.

EMT (seniors only), Physics (any level), Certified Nursing Assistant, Research, Microbiology (.5), Human Diseases (.5), Animal Behavior (.5), AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Genetics (.5), Animal Behavior (.5), Anatomy, Sports Med 1-4, Pharmacy Tech, Psychology and Literature, Child Development, College Writing, AP Statistics, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, CPR and First Aid, Sociology, Public Speaking, Computer Science, AP Psychology, Physical Education Elective, Visual or Performing Arts, a business course, IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science, or a Wake Tech Health Science course
