Sneha's Thoughts on the Mentoring Program!
The first couple of weeks in high school are an emotional rollercoaster. “Jitters,” “confusion,” and “overwhelmed” do the feeling justice for many of us. The MBSA academy has sympathized with these feelings for freshmen, and in response, has successfully nurtured a mentorship program over many years.
First semester, the MBSA mentorship program was composed of board members as mentors and freshmen as mentees meeting in monthly meetings. Although the meetings were jam-packed with information, my favorite aspect was definitely making relationships with my mentees. Not only am I able to guide them through the many moving parts of their first year in the academy, but we are able to communicate about how we are doing in high school as a whole. This varies anywhere from Driver’s Ed to homework balance.
Each mentor would tell you a different story of their experiences, but I think that is what truly makes this program so diverse and flexible: It is unique to the mentee.
As second semester has kicked off and we make a few changes to the program, I encourage freshmen to continue approaching their mentors with any questions and feelings they have. We want to make your first year here a good one!
Stay safe!
