Urban Ministries Job Shadowing
As an MBSA Junior, one of the requisits is to job shadow. I was given the oppurtunity to job shadow an intake nurse working in Urban Ministries. An intake nurse takes vital, such as distole and systole readingsl, while also compiling a list of symptoms or possible signs of illnesses. In short, an intake nurse’s job is to record certain traits, so that a doctor can make a diagnosis more easily or figure a solution or procedure to take place.
Urban ministries works with under-privelaged families to make treatment, or medical services affordable for the families. As a result, having a background in foreign languages provides a lot of assistance. The intake nurse I shadowed did not have a background in a foreign language(s), instead he had the assistance of a translator.
The Job Shadowing experience was one that was eye-opening, and has provided me with some insight into how the working environment is. Furthermore, it has made me consider other possible positions of work for the medical field and made me consider Urban Ministries as a possible site of internship for the future.
